마음을 건드리고 떠난 그녀 목소리 - 크랜베리스 (The Cranberries) 이야기

시작은 이거!
팝과 팝스타 이야기를 매우 디테일하게 전하는 유튜버다.
그동안엔 즐겨듣기만 했다.
마이클잭슨과ABBA 얘길 해도 그렇구나 했다.

생소한 밴드였다.
대표곡 중 Ode to my Family 는 워낙 마성의 브금으로 공중에 회자되었던 거고
Dreams는 영화 OST로 알았을 뿐
그 나라 아일랜드 밴드란 것,
내한공연도 있었던 세계적 밴드라는 것
등등 모든 것이 금시초문인 뮤지션.

그런데도 유달리 여운이 남았다.
유튜브 보고 당장에  하루종일 스트리밍해서 듣기 시작했다.
아직은 그저 목소리가 악기 자체라는,그러나 거슬리지않는 취향의 팝이라는 감흥이 전부다.

아마도 유튜버가 평한 대로 유명해지면 유명해질수록 외로워했다는 보컬 돌로레스 때문일 것이다.
어떤 사람이길래
동료도 인정하길 평생 유명세에 적응하지 못한 성정이었을까?

그럼에도 음악과 세상애 대한 꺾이지 않는 소신을 가졌던 사람.
평생 가족과 함께 있길 가장 소중히 여겼다는 사람.
시골 촌구석 자기 고항과 거기서 온 자신의 정체성을 부끄러워하지 않고 당당했다는 그녀가 신기해서인가보다.

유튜버 복고맨은 쇼츠에서  돌로레스를 아주 영리하게 소개했다.
돌로레스가 크렌배리스에 보컬로 합류하기 이전의 밴드 수준과 돌로레스의 등장 후 그녀가 전세계 터뜨린 대박 음악을 대비시켰다.


내가 크렌배리스와 돌로레스가 인상깊었단 두번째 이유는 시골무명밴드와 천재의 드라마틱한 결합 스토리때문이다.

돌로레스는 팀에 들어와 바로 작사능력을 선보이기까지 했다. 그때 곡을 만든 기존 멤버가 이후 밴드에서 돌로레스와 함께 작곡 파트너역할을 맡은 노엘 호건이다.

호건형제와 그 친구 이렇게 남성 3인방이 터줏대감으로 있던 밴드안에서  소위 영입되어 굴러들어온 돌(?) 돌로레스가 박혀있던 멤버들에게 얼마나 쇼킹함을 선보였을까?
밴드를 버리고(?)떠난 기존 보컬은 남겨진 크렌배리스의 성공을 보며 무슨 생각을 했을까?
무엇보다 신비한 목소리 뿐 아니라 얼굴도 여신처럼 ,아니 그 얼굴에 걸맞게 아름다왔다.
실력과 스타성을 다 갖춘 진정한 뮤즈이자 뮤지션이었다
크렌베리스 입장에선 호박이 덩쿨째 들어왔을 것이다.
그녀가 들어온 이후 밴드의 무대는 아일랜드를
벗어나 전세계로 뻗어나갔으니까.


늘 느끼는 바지만
세상은 넓고 훌륭한 음악은 많다
(이 말 원전은 대우그룹 회장 김우중의 세계는 넓고 할일은 많다 이다)
